The Philippines participated in its first World Baseball Classic during the 2013 qualifier. The upstart nation got its first Classic victory with an 8-2 thrashing of Thailand before losses to Chinese Taipei and New Zealand dashed their hopes of reaching the main event. The Philippines enters the 2017 qualifiers boasting five players who are current members of an MLB organization.
