There are close to 3,000 baseball players in Israel, including youth leagues and adult leagues, as well as national teams taking part in international play. For the past 25 years, amateur play has been run by the Israel Association of Baseball, a nonprofit organization charged with developing the sport. The Israeli National Team is 5-4 overall in international competition, having participated in two international qualifier tournaments in 2004 and 2008. Former Major Leaguers Shawn Green and Gabe Kapler have committed to play in the 2013 qualifier for the Israel squad, which is managed by former big league catcher Brad Ausmus.
