COACHING CAREER

Returned to the Rays organization when he was named bullpen coach on Nov 21, 2005...was in the Rays system as a minor league manager from 1997 through 1999...in September 1998, he joined the major league staff as bullpen coach for one month after Orlando Gomez moved from the bullpen to third base coach, replacing Greg Riddoch who had suffered a torn Achilles tendon...Managed the Gulf Coast League Rays in 1997 and 1998 and the Rookie-level Princeton Rays in 1999...piloted the Rays to a 36-24 record and the GCL Northern Division title in 1998...managed Carl Crawford, Doug Waechter and Seth McClung at Princeton in 1999...Prior to rejoining the Rays he spent six seasons in the Angels organization including the last three as the Angels roving catching instructor...Was on the Angels major league staff as bullpen coach for three seasons (2000-02), including the 2002 Angels World Series championship team...Joe Maddon was the Angels bench coach during that span...Started his coaching career as a coach and roving minor league instructor in the Houston organization from 1989 through 1992, then went on to manage at Asheville, the Astros affiliate in the Class-A South Atlantic League...managed the next six years, five of them in the Gulf Coast League...owns a 241-264 (.477) record as a minor league manager...compiled a 104-72 record over three years while managing the GCL Astros team and won the first GCL title in franchise history in 1994.

PLAYING CAREER

Played parts of 5 seasons in the major leagues with Montreal (1978, 1980-81, 1983-84), primarily as a backup to Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter...Was with the Yankees for six weeks in 1982 and his only hit was a 2-run, game-tying home run in the 8th inning off Jamie Easterly on Sep 12 vs. MIL...Yankees trailed 8-2 in the game and went on to win 9-8...Also played in the minor league systems of the Angels (1979, 1985), Royals (1986-87) and Giants (1988)...First major league hit was a double off HOU Gordie Pladson on July 19, 1980...his hit drove in the game-winning run for 162-game-winner Bill Gullickson's first major league victory...First major league home run came on April 19, 1981 at NYM off Pat Zachry.

Born in Cuba, he immigrated to Miami at the age of 13...Graduated from Jackson High School in Miami in 1974...Married (Maria) with three children: Elyane, Jason and Emily.
