The Rays and United Way are teaming up for the fourth straight year to kick off the United Way Campaign season. The campaign includes three different events taking place here at Tropicana Field.
The campaign recently kicked off at a breakfast hosted by the Rays at Tropicana Field in August. The breakfast featured Raymond, a video welcome from Rays Manager Joe Maddon and a welcome address from Rays VP of Sales Mark Fernandez, who serves on the United Way of Tampa Bay Board of Directors. Later that day United Way hosted "Sortopalooza," a massive sorting of the books donated during United Way's book drive. The books were sorted, categorized and donated to school libraries throughout the region.
The partnership caps off with United Way Night at the Trop in September, where United Way supporters receive a special price on tickets to the game vs. Angels that night. The Rays will feature a United Way presentation before the game and play United Way messages throughout the evening.
