Club sponsors first of its kind in Florida
The Tampa Bay Rays are proud to sponsor the very first adult wheelchair softball team in Florida, the Rays Wheelchair Softball Team. As the Tampa Bay area team heads into its sixth season, both the team and sport will continue to grow in stature and reach new levels with the sponsorship of Freedom Playground Foundation. The organizations will manage the team as they work to promote wheelchair sports for active-duty service members, veterans and non-veterans in the community.
The Rays Wheelchair Softball Team is governed under the National Wheelchair Softball Association. The season typically runs from April through August, and a National Tournament is held each year, with teams from all across the country competing for the first place title in their division. During the season, practices are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. - noon at the softball field established for them through the City of Tampa, located at Rowlett Park.
