On Jan. 10. members of the Rays Employee Community Outreach Team (ECOT) spent the day in Manatee County in an effort to help restore the Terra Ceia Coast. Over 70 ECOT members showed up to restore estuarine wetlands by planting plugs of salt marsh.
By assisting in the Terra Ceia Ecosystem Restoration Project the Rays along with the Tampa Bay Watch completed the largest ever Bay Area salt marsh restoration project.
On June 6, members of the Rays Employee Community Outreach Team (ECOT), worked with the City of St. Petersburg to participate in the Neighborhood Team Painting Project (N-Team). The program set up by the city allows for residents to submit suggestions of homes in need of improvements as well as restoring homes that are in violation of the city's neighborhood codes. The city then prepares and primes the home. Fifteen Rays employees spent the day painting the house doing yard work and completing various home improvement tasks for the N-Team Painting Project. Rays employees took the challenge of the project and went above and beyond by even inviting the homeowners out to a future game. "We truly enjoyed working with the City of St. Petersburg and offering our time and efforts towards improving the home of such a great family, while helping keep St. Petersburg a great place to live," said Travis Mincey, Rays employee and project chair.
ECOT, established in April 2008, provides invaluable, voluntary man hours to community service agencies that enhance or improve the quality of life in the communities they serve. ECOT's philanthropic efforts give the Rays a year-round, goodwill presence in the community. Service projects are chosen from ideas suggested from employees. Employee volunteering not only benefits the community and the Rays organization, but also can provide employees with opportunities to improve leadership skills and explore new areas of interest while working alongside fellow employees from other departments.
