Right-hander Ryne Stanek, the Rays' No. 11 prospect, threw six scoreless innings and earned his first professional victory Monday, as Class A Bowling Green defeated West Michigan, 15-0.
Stanek struck out four batters and allowed one hit. Pitching efficiently, he generated eight groundouts and needed just 56 pitches to complete six innings.
Stanek's lone blemish was a two-out double in the first inning by West Michigan designated hitter Raph Rhymes. Stanek responded by retiring the next 16 batters to finish his start.
The Rays selected Stanek 29th overall in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He was held out of action by a nagging hip injury after signing last summer. It ultimately required surgery in the offseason, delaying his debut until May 8.
Since he has gotten back on the mound, Stanek has pitched well. In four starts for the Hot Rods, he has a 2.95 ERA and has held opponents to a .234 batting average. He has struck out 16 hitters and walked six in 21 1/3 innings.
