Yunel day to day with hamstring tightness

ST. PETERSBURG -- Shortstop Yunel Escobar left the Rays' 3-0 win over the Yankees on Wednesday night prior to the seventh inning with tightness in his right hamstring and is listed as day to day.

Escobar said he felt a "little pull" in his hamstring while running to first base on a sixth-inning single. He advanced to second base on a groundout by catcher Jose Molina.

Escobar expected to get the day off Thursday, when the Rays will take on the White Sox in Chicago. Prior to his departure, Escobar had been the only player on this year's Rays team to have played every inning of every game.

"[Escobar's] not really had that kind of a feeling before in his leg, so we got him out of there," Rays manager Joe Maddon said.

Escobar came to the Rays in a December trade with the Marlins; he is hitting .164. When he didn't come back out for the seventh inning, Ben Zobrist moved from right field to shortstop, where the versatile veteran played down the stretch last season.
