Matsui exits after injuring hamstring in outfield

Matsui, playing right field, said the injury occurred in the top of the second inning, when Derek Jeter hit a foul ball into the right-field stands that Matsui chased, running to the short wall across the foul line. When Matsui returned to the dugout at the end of the inning, manager Joe Maddon removed Matsui, who added that he felt better after the game.
"Right now, I feel like it calmed down," Matsui said. "I think it just tightened up."
In the top of the first inning, Matsui misplayed a high popup hit by Mark Teixeira that fell to the turf, allowing New York to score the first run of the game.
Matsui said that he doesn't feel a trip to the disabled list will be necessary, but he could be out "maybe a few days."
Maddon said that Matsui will be re-evaluated before Tuesday's 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch.
Jeff Keppinger took Matsui's place in the lineup and played third base after Maddon shuffled his defense. Keppinger went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout.
