Rays designate Allen for assignment
By Bill Chastain / MLB.com
Allen hit .100 (2-for-20) in 10 games for Tampa Bay before injuring his right quadriceps on May 9. The 26-year-old slugger is out of Minor League options, so he must clear waivers in order to be sent to the Minors.
Allen's best moment for the Rays occurred on April 26, when he hit a two-run walk-off homer against the Angels for a 4-3 Rays win.
"This guy helped us in about three games in the limited time he was with us," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "He was designated for assignment. I don't know how that's all going to wash, but this guy's a wonderful young man. We were told that before we got him. Makeup-off-the-chart kind of guy -- it's true. Incredible power. So we'll see how it all plays out. ... We'd love to keep him."
