Chastain talks Rays in on-line chat
By / MLB.com
Bill Chastain: Good morning, everybody. After a few technical difficulties I'm ready to answer your Rays questions.
wizeguy34: How long will Molina be the starting catcher? Do the Rays have any other options?
Bill Chastain: Jose Lobaton and Chris Gimenez appear to be the only options right now, though Stephen Vogt is coming along -- particularly on the offense side. The big question will be how many games can Molina catch since 80-plus games is his career high.
punksroo: How do you think Davis will do emotionally coming out of the bullpen?
Bill Chastain: I think he will do fine. He is a pro and said all of the right things yesterday after receiving the news. I believe he has the potential to put out fires on a nightly basis.
punksroo: After observing the bats all spring, what are your expectations for the season?
Bill Chastain: Right now it's hard to say since they have not had their everyday lineup together all spring. I still like the way the lineup looks on paper, but there is some concern about starting the season without having played together much during the spring.
Bill Chastain: Keep sending in your questions.
wizeguy34: If (Kyle) Farnsworth gets hurt, would they use (Joel) Peralta again to close out games?
Bill Chastain: Peralta would be the first option. But there are a lot of guys in this year's bullpen who might step up to grab the ninth inning. I believe (J.P.) Howell will come back strong. Jake McGee, Fernando Rodney, and perhaps Davis.
punksroo: Who do you think will get the starting job at shortstop?
Bill Chastain: Sean Rodriguez looks like he has the inside track right now.
Bill Chastain: OK everyone I have time for a couple more questions. Fire away.
jknva: What are your 2012 division predictions?
Bill Chastain: I think the Yankees, Tigers and Rangers, with the Rays and Angels as the Wild Cards.
wizeguy34: Do you think they will call (Brandon) Guyer up at some point this year?
Bill Chastain: Sure, I think he will be up at some point this season. Every season brings a lot of player activity.
punksroo: Who plays the Rays in the World Series this year?
Bill Chastain: Phillies.
Bill Chastain: That's all the time we have. Thanks for all your questions.
