General manager Andrew Friedman was happy the Rays were able to ink some of the team's future five days after the last selection was made on June 11.
"It's a testament to our scouts, who really took the time this spring to know the players and get a really good feel for what it's going to take to sign them," Friedman said. "So far, there's really no surprises, which is a good thing."
Friedman said the signed picks will be dispersed to the team's three short-season clubs. Those three teams are Port Charlotte in the Gulf Coast League, the Princeton Rays in the Appalachian League and the Hudson Valley Renegades in the New York-Penn League.
As for the unsigned players the Rays chose in the first seven rounds, Friedman said he expects sixth-rounder Devin Fuller out of Chandler Gilbert Community College to sign soon.
"The others -- it is just a process," Friedman said. "It's something for us that we remain confident that we'll get them signed, get them in and get them going. Sometimes, it takes a little longer than you will ideally like."
