ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- The Tampa Bay Rays will host their first-ever Tweet-Up at the Rays-Blue Jays game on August 4 (12:10 p.m. game time) at Tropicana Field. A Tweet-Up is a gathering of people who use Twitter.

The promotion is open to all Twitter users but specifically targets followers of the Rays team accounts @RaysRepublic and @RaysBaseball. CNBC sports business reporter Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell)-who has more than 100,000 followers on Twitter-will sing the national anthem and tweet from different locations inside Tropicana Field during the game.

In addition, Rovell will report live throughout CNBC's Business Day programming on game day and interview Rays executives Andrew Friedman and Matt Silverman. Last year, Rovell was named SportsNetworker.com's Sports Social Media Professional of the Year and his CNBC.com "SportsBiz" blog was named the Best Sports Business Blog in 2010 by TheBusinessOfSports.com.

On Wednesday, July 27, the @RaysRepublic account will hold several contests on Twitter for the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, bring the lineup card to the umpires at home plate and serve as Rovell's VIP assistant for the day which includes on-field access during batting practice and pregame activities.

The Rays will also publish tweets using the Rays Tweet-Up hashtag (#RaysTweetUp) on the RaysVision scoreboard throughout the game. The @RaysRepublic account, which holds a free in-game Twitter Trivia contest during every Rays home game, will give away a Rays autographed baseball every inning during the game.
