Cleveland Indians, Delaware North again offering fundraising opportunities to Northeast Ohio nonprofits
By operating concession stands at Progressive Field during 2013 season, volunteer groups can earn thousands
Cleveland, OH—The Cleveland Indians and Delaware North Companies, the team’s exclusive food and beverage provider, again are offering interested nonprofit groups the chance to earn money through the Delaware North Sportservice Fundraising program.
Energetic, enthusiastic groups, which must hold 501(c) 3 status, may volunteer to work concession stands at a minimum of 10 Indians home games, or up to all 81. Volunteers also may be needed at special events and any postseason games for which the Indians qualify.
For their efforts, nonprofits earn at least $60 per required worker – the number of volunteers needed typically ranges from 8 to 12 -- or 10% of net sales at their stand, whichever sum is greater.
Sales totals vary on any number of factors, the most important of which is the level of service volunteers provide to fans; attendance, weather and the Indians’ opponent also factor in. Last year, DNC donated over $1 million to all participants. Eight groups received over $50,000 each, while the top group received over $152,000.
On average, a group volunteering for 10 games receives about $4,500. Over the last decade, DNC has donated over $10 million to local nonprofits participating in the program.
“We take pride in using our unique setting to help local nonprofits achieve their fundraising goals,” said Peg Kalberer, DNC’s fundraising manager. “With the commitment the Indians’ ownership showed this offseason and the resulting excitement surrounding the team, we feel this year holds even greater opportunity for nonprofits to raise crucial funds.”
DNC provides shirts for each volunteer and a startup supply of hats, with groups responsible for black pants, white T-shirts, belts and closed-toe shoes. Training and complimentary parking also are provided.
