Reds at the plate: Willy Taveras displayed the speed the Reds hope to get from the free-agent outfielder by walking to lead off the game, stealing second, advancing to third on a single and scoring on Joey Votto's sacrifice fly. Juan Encarnacion hit his second home run of the spring when he connected for a solo shot off Rays starter Jason Hammel in the second inning.

Rays at the plate: Willy Aybar had three singles in his three at-bats and scored the Rays' first run in the fifth, when Pat Burrell singled him home. The Rays went on to score seven runs in the inning, which was highlighted by Dioner Navarro's two-run single and Reid Brignac's three-run homer.
Reds on the mound: Edinson Volquez escaped early trouble when he faced Burrell with the bases loaded in the first and got the Rays slugger to ground into an inning-ending double play. The right-hander escaped another bases-loaded jam in the second by striking out Carl Crawford. Rays on the mound: Hammel, who is trying to win the No. 5 spot in the rotation, lasted four innings and allowed three runs on five hits and a walk. Joe Nelson, who had a rough outing against the Pirates on Sunday, came back strong with a perfect inning of relief. Troy Percival made his third appearance of the spring and put up his third scoreless inning. Grapefruit League records: Reds 9-10; Rays 10-7-1. Up next: The Rays will host the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon in a 1:05 p.m. ET contest at Charlotte Sports Park. Scott Kazmir will make his third start of the spring. He will be followed by Derek Rodriguez, Brian Shouse and Jason Isringhausen. St. Louis will send Joel Pineiro to the hill.Bill Chastain is a reporter for MLB.com.
