Rays at the plate: Dioner Navarro and Jon Weber both hit solo shots off Indians starter Paul Byrd. With two on in the sixth, Joel Guzman ripped a scorching RBI double down the third-base line. Two Rays players left early with injuries. B.J. Upton was plunked by a pitch and left with a left triceps contusion, and Akinori Iwamura left with lower back soreness.

Indians at the plate: Non-roster invitee Andy Gonzalez, getting the start in right field, ripped a two-run homer to right off Jason Hammel in the second inning. Jhonny Peralta lofted an RBI single to right in the fifth. Grady Sizemore was a late scratch from the starting lineup because of wet ground in center field.

Rays on the mound: Hammel, attempting to win a spot in the Rays' rotation, went 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Right-hander Scott Munter worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Indians on the mound: Byrd was stretched out to six innings of work, giving up four runs on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Eleven of the outs he recorded were of the fly ball variety, and a few went to the warning track. Scott Elarton, still in the running for the Tribe's last bullpen spot, worked two scoreless frames.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 9-12-2; Rays 14-4-2.

Up next for the Rays: Tampa Bay will play the Yankees for the fourth and final time this spring when the Rays travel to Legends Field on Friday night for a 7:15 ET game. Andy Sonnanstine, who is hoping to earn one of the available open slots in the starting rotation, will start for the Rays. Grant Balfour and Scott Dohmann also are expected to pitch. Darrell Rasner is scheduled to start for New York.

Indians up next: It will be a matchup of Cy Young Award winners at Disney on Friday afternoon, as left-hander C.C. Sabathia gets the 1:05 p.m. starting nod opposite Braves right-hander John Smoltz. Right-handers Tom Mastny and Jorge Julio, the top contenders for the Tribe's final bullpen spot, also are slated to pitch.
