Rays offer contracts to all players
Every player on Tampa Bay's 40-man roster tendered
ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have tendered contracts to all of the players on their 40-man roster.
Wednesday night at midnight is the deadline to tender contracts to all players under their control, and none of the players on the Rays' 40-man roster -- which currently stands at 38 players -- will become a free agent after not being tendered a contract.
Arbitration eligible players on the Rays include: Grant Balfour, Gary Glover, Jonny Gomes, Scott Kazmir, Carlos Pena and Dan Wheeler.
The Rays had to offer contracts to 30 of their 38 players; these were all players who did not have guaranteed contracts for the 2008 season.
While the Rays tendered all of their players, they will be actively looking over the list of non-tendered players from other teams' rosters to perhaps fill a need.
The Rays are rumored to be close to a deal with veteran Cliff Floyd, who would answer their need for a left-handed hitter who can play the outfield and be a designated hitter. They also would like to find a left-handed reliever and a utility infielder.
