October 11, 1967 > The New York Mets name former Brooklyn All-Star Gil Hodges as their manager, succeeding interim manager Salty Parker, who replaced Wes Westrum for the last 11 games of the '67 season. Hodges had been managing the Washington Senators, who receive $100,000 as compensation from New York. Two years later, Hodges will guide the Mets to their first World Championship.
