Avis, FredericMenlo School (CA)RHPR/R6'02"1851993-11-03HS
Comments: Based on stuff and size alone, Avis would be considered a very good high school pitching prospect. The question of whether he'll sign brings his Draft status into question. The right-hander is athletic and projectable with the chance to have a good three-pitch mix. He'll throw his fastball up to 93-94 mph with good movement. His curve is inconsistent, but it has the chance to be a plus pitch. He’s shown some feel for a changeup and commands his pitches fairly well. He plays shortstop when he's not pitching and also plays basketball, a testament to his athleticism. The NoCal high schooler is committed to Stanford and it's believed it might be very difficult to break that commitment, making it tougher to figure out where to put him on Draft boards.

Barr, AustinCamas HS (WA)CR/R6'02"2151993-09-05HS
Comments: Hailing from the same area as fellow Draft prospect Clint Coulter, Barr isn't quite on the same level as his neighbor, but he has plenty to like. He's strong and durably built for the position and has the defensive tools -- and leadership teams like to see -- to stay behind the plate long term. Barr has a good idea of what he's doing at the plate, and it looks like he should hit for average and power down the road. He is considered a very tough sign because of his commitment to attend Stanford in the fall.
