Matt Cain blasts one into McCovey Cove ... with a golf club

Madison Bumgarner drilled his first career homer Tuesday night, and Matt Cain thought that looked like fun.

So on Wednesday, before tossing the first perfect game in Giants history, Cain decided to crush a big fly of his own -- but not with a baseball. The right-hander hit his blast, a 310-yard shot that landed in McCovey Cove, off a tee with a driver. And then he got ready to pitch against the Astros.

Cain's inspiration came from PGA golfer Dustin Johnson who was on hand at AT&T Park to throw out the first pitch Wednesday night. Johnson began taking BP with his golf club, which then prompted the pitcher to give it a go.

Johnson's appearance at the ballpark came just a day after Rory McIlroy tossed the ceremonial first pitch in San Francisco. If the PGA Tour is ever looking for an extra player, it looks as if Cain would be a natural on the links.
